Memories of Frank Egan
Frank (Butch) R. Egan passed away in 2006. Butch always remembered his days at East Leyden with fond memories. He played golf untill literally the last week of his life.
I have great memories of Butch, as we all called him. In the summer before my junior year at East Leyden (1960), he would meet me at St. Gertrude Church Carnival every night. Thatís were he introduced himself to me. We had so much fun and laughs there, and he would then walk me home. I remember him coming to my house, I believe, on the very day he got his 1960 silver Chevrolet. He came to my door and asked if I wanted to go for a ride. I did, and when we got back to my house he asked me if I wanted to trade two silver friendship rings, that I wore (remember those) for a gold one (his EL class ring). He taught me how to drive a stick shift in that car, and was a very patient teacher. We went steady through my junior, his senior year, and my senior year. We use to send folded up notes to each other in home room, and he would draw pictures of Beatle Bailey cartoons on the notes. He was quite good at drawing them. I was very impressed. His parents were very good to me, and his sister Kelley, who was only 4 years old at the time, was so cute and fun to be around. I know Butch loved her very much. Rest in peace my friend.
